The Omega Center for Sustainable Living (OCSL) opened in 2009 with the construction of our EcoMachine, a natural wastewater reclamation facility designed in partnership with acclaimed biologist, John Todd. As the world’s first LEED Platinum and Living Building Challenge certified project, the center receives thousands of visitors and many school groups each year. In 2018 we worked with Project Drawdown to produce the first Drawdown Learn Conference. This incubation event featured many partner organizations, educators, students, local officials, businesses, curriculum designers, and others deeply committed to work on strengthening the way climate change is taught, and how schools and communities can help scale up collective efforts toward urgent solutions.
The expanded 2019 Drawdown Learn Conference seeks to build increased awareness, engagement, and mass mobilization using the Drawdown research and other frameworks such as Article 12 of the Paris Agreement, with a particular focus on nurturing and supporting youth leadership; sharing resources and curriculum ideas; and catalyzing action.
Drawdown Learn is a three-day conference featuring presentations by the Drawdown leadership team; multiple breakout presentations, work sessions, and strategic meetings led by young people, practitioners, and partner organizations; an interactive climate solutions expo; a media zone; and a participant-led Unconference session to coordinate collaborative next steps.
Organizations, universities, libraries, city sustainability offices, and other groups are encouraged to join us in person or host satellite site events across the United States and around the world using the free program live stream and interactive media zone.
