Indigenous peoples have long-called for mitigation strategies to meet climate change challenges. These resolutions depend on common understandings about tribal sovereignty, self-sufficiency, cultural identify, and the unique climate change impacts facing indigenous communities. Traditional knowledge and land rights are particularly critical to climate mitigation solutions at local scales but are unequally valued in international agreements. Empowerment of indigenous voices remains critical to enhancing sustainable and equitable drawdown solutions.
